Stila Eyeliner Pen I’m not sure why I’d never tried this eyeliner or even heard anyone talk about it before, but I tested it at Sephora last month and instantly fell in love.  Eyeliner pens are my favorite liquid liners.  They just seem to be much easier to apply. The downside is that it’s hard to find a good one. So what do I mean by “good”?

  1. Wet
  2. Stiff and pointed tip
  3. Long wearing/lasting

I’ve tried MAC Penultimate and it used to be my favorite. It has a short precise felt tip that glides on smoothly. It lasts all day. I tried Revlon Colorstay, which is pretty good, but the tip is bigger than I like and they don’t seem to be made the same. I’ve had a couple that were great and then a couple that dried really quickly and were hard to apply. It stayed on all day without any problems, even through intense workouts.  I also gave the Elf eyeliner pen a try.  The original version of the Elf eyeliner pen was decent.  The newest version I don’t like at all.  It has a weird applicator.  It’s flat instead of long and pointy.  You have to keep pumping it to get the liquid to come to the tip.  It never seemed wet enough to glide on.  It ended up being almost painful to apply.  (plus it went up a dollar. *hmph*).

Stila Eyeliner Pen standing This Stila eyeliner pen is by far the best that I’ve ever tried.  When I took the cap off, I was instantly optimistic because I saw the tip.  It’s really long and goes from thick to fine.  This means you can easily make a very thin or thick line above your lashes.

Stila Eyeliner Pen Swatches On my hand I applied the same Stila eyeliner pen.  On top I held it at an angle.  At the bottom I used the very tip with a soft stroke.   Here it is on my eye. Stila Eyeliner pen open eye Stila Eyeliner Pen eye closed Another thing I absolutely LOVE about this Stila Eyeliner Pen is that it dries quickly and once it’s on…it’s on. You will need makeup remover to get it off.

Rimmel The Max Volume Flash Mascara I took a chance when I tried this mascara.  I hadn’t heard any reviews and didn’t take any time to look it up.  I saw that it was on sale for $2 at H.E.B. grocery store and decided to give it a try.  Rimmel Max Volume Mascara brush I’ve been using it for a while now and it does a pretty good job.  I recently posted a look while using it when I created my FOTD with Ofra and Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette.  To see that post click here.Rimmel Max Flash Mascara on one eye

It’s ok.  It’s not the best mascara I’ve ever used but it’s definitely not the worse.  It got the job done.  I mean, it was only $2 so my expectations weren’t that high anyway.  Not sure that I’d buy it again, but  I don’t regret that I took a chance on it.

The Naked Palette 3 came out a couple of weeks ago. Beauty lovers all over have been thrilled about the 3rd installment of the neutral palette by Urban Decay.2013-12-21 03.03.33

Initially I wasn’t interested. I remember all of the hype about the 1st one. I finally caved in and purchased it. You can see my review here. When the 2nd one was released, it didn’t seem to be much different from the 1st one so I didn’t bother to get it. It also appeared to not be as versatile, particularly for people of darker skin tones. So when the 3rd one came out I though ehhhh. I’ll pass. Well, I went to Ulta last week and saw that they had them in stock. Then…I don’t know what happened. Something just came over me, and I suddenly felt like I had to have it.

2013-12-21 02.57.24LOL! I swatched the colors and compared them to the 1st one and saw that they were actually different.

I like that the new palette comes with samples of all 4 of the Urban Decay Primer Potion. The first one came with a travel size of the original formula (which I still have).

The original Naked Palette is described as bronze neutrals whereas Naked 3 Palette is described as Rose Neutrals. Swatches of Naked 3 Below. 2013-12-23 00.15.51 Above is with a flash and below is without. 2013-12-23 00.15.33 From Left to Right:  Strange, Dust, Burnout, Limit, Buzz, Trick, Nooner, Liar, Factory, Mugshot, Darkside, and Blackheart

I used the duo ended brush that came with the palette.  I didn’t use any of the primer potions.  The were applied to my bare skin.  I noticed that not all of the colors swiped well.  Some needed to be layered quite a bit. The easiest ones to apply were Blackheart, Burnout, and Dust.  It was very challenging to get Darkside, and Limit to show.  I don’t even remember how many layers I had to do to build up the color to show up.  I haven’t done an eye look with the palette yet, but I’d guess the colors will work a lot better with the primer potion added 1st.

So did you cave into all of they hype for the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette? If so what are you thoughts on it?

CoastalScents Starry Nights QuadCoastalScents Starry Night Quad Name

I received this Coastal Scents eyeshadow quad in Starry Night as a free sample with a purchase I ordered earlier this year. I happened to be going through some things and found it so I decided to give it a try.

As you know, I’m a huge fan of Coastal Scents. I truly believe they have great products for such an inexpensive price. I especially love the fact that they have sales EVERY Fri. I wasn’t really concerned about the pigment or quality while trying out this quad. I was more interested in seeing how the colors blended.  Here’s the look I came up with below.

I’m really impressed with these lashes. They remind me of a more natural version of my beloved MAC #7 lashes. I’ll definitely buy more of these.

***Oh and for my Texas beauty lovers, H.E.B. has these lashes on sale for $2.50. :-)***

Skinn Orchid Gel TintAs I continue on my quest to find the perfect mattiying/oil controlling products, I will post them on here to keep you all up to date.  I was introduced to the Skinn cosmetics brand by my mom who tried some of the products on either QVC or HSN. She really likes what she’s purchased so far and recommended the Orchid Gel Tint for me to review.

Skinn Orchid Gel Tint Open I know this looks a bit messy. It has a unique creamy and whipped almost liquid texture that’s hard to explain. I’ll show you how it blends into the skin.

Even though it’s called a Gel Tint, it really doesn’t have a tinted effect on the skin so any skin tone can wear it. See below how I rubbed it into my skin.

The first picture shows it swatched on my skin. The second picture shows it rubbed in a little bit.Skinn Orchid Gel Tint Rubbed inHere it is totally rubbed in.

I really like it. It feels different from other primers/mattifyers that I’ve used. I was able to make it from 8am to about 3pm without having to blot and that’s pretty impressive. It works for me about the same as the MAC Prep and Prime Skin Refined Zone, it just feels different.

I received this Revlon Photoready BB Cream for free as a Klout Perk.  I was very excited about it because I’ve begun to fall in love with BB creams. So far I’ve tried Garnier, Bobbi Brown, and Maybelline.  I was eager to see how this Revlon version would compare.Revlon Photoready BB Cream Collage

I wasn’t expecting too much because of the very limited range of colors.  I was only able to choose from Light, Light/Medium, or Medium.  Really Revlon? Ya’ll are just going to totally disregard women of color huh? SMH!  I got to the point of being upset because in 2013, there’s NO excuse for a major cosmetic company to just not have a wide range of colors available for it’s fan base.  It was really confusing to me because it’s not like Revlon doesn’t normally have products for people with darker skin.  For example, Revlon Colorstay liquid foundation is very popular (I wear Carmel and I love it) and has a great range of colors to choose from.  I would have only imagined their BB Cream would be the same.

Here’s what it looks like on me.

Revlon BB Cream So you know I was concerned after swatching this on my hand.  Of course I know that my hands are darker than my face, but still.  I was very worried this Medium color was going to be way to light for my skin.

Revlon BB Cream B4 picAbove is my before pic. I’m wearing absolutely no makeup. Yep, I’m pretty brave. LOL! ;-p

Revlon BB Cream on face In this picture, I’ve started to rub in the  Medium BB Cream.

Revlon BB Cream finished lookThis is the finished look.

So what are my thoughts?

I’ve worn it for about a week. I really really like the way it feels on my skin and how it makes my face feel soft.  I also like that a litte goes a long way.   It’s very long lasting and I’ve noticed my makeup goes on more smoothly when I wear it.  I don’t wear it alone because I need more coverage.  As you can see in the above pics, my blemishes still show, which is fine.  I wear BB Creams to combine skin care products, not to replace my makeup.

It seems as though Revlon was trying to play the “Brown Paper Bag Test”, and I barely made the cut.  :-(  Strangely enough, it does blend well into my skin, even though the color range is extremely limited. I can’t explain how it somehow still works for me even though it looks too light at first.  I think I just made the cut.  So if you are any darker than me, it’ll be a risk buying this BB Cream.  I’d recommend Maybelline instead.  I just finished my tube and I truly like it.  Maybelline has a good variety of colors, however, I will say I like the Revlon BB Cream better because it’s more light weight and I feel it  blends better.  It’s not really matte, but it’s not as creamy as the Maybelline BB Cream.  So far, I like Bobbi Brown’s BB Cream the best. On the downside, this is another company that didn’t make a wide range of colors.  I just made the cut for the darkest color as well. The Bobbi Brown BB Cream gave a little more coverage, which meant I didn’t have to apply as much makeup afterwards.

I truly hope Revlon will extend the color range of this product.
