I happened to walk down the cosmetic aisle of Kroger’s Grocery store and saw my sorority sister Melody. She told me about a new line of Maybelline lipsticks that were dupes for MAC lipsticks. She was looking to find dupes for Embrace Me and Candy Yum Yum. I was a bit hesitant because I’ve never tried Maybeline’s lip products.  When it comes to drugstore lippies, I’m a huge fan of Revlon.  I decided to go look anyway. While looking at the pinks, I happened to pickup a pretty purple called Brazen Berry.

It was love at first sight. Now mind you, I had no intentions of buying any lipsticks. I was only supposed to be “looking”. Needless to say I went home with Brazen Berry. Here’s my review below.

I’m in love with this lipstick.  It feels really, really good on my lips.

It’s not quite as hydrating as my beloved Revlon Lip Butters, but it feels creamier than MAC Cremesheen lipsticks.  The staying power is really good.  I put on Brazen Berry early this morning at around 7:30 and it lasted well after lunch.  I still had some color left on my lips, it just wasn’t as vibrant.  That’s a shocker! I was pleasantly surprised at the great quality and value (less than $6). I’d definitely recommend these and I’ll be purchasing more colors.

Initially when I heard about Nicki Minaj being this year’s MAC Viva Glam Ambassador…again, I thought “oh, I can’t wait to see what color she’ll have this time.”. When I saw promos and the description, I was actually excited. My favorite colors are pink and purple. Since the color was described as a vivid lavender pink, I thought this would be a gorgeous color and couldn’t wait to see it.

After my initial swatches, my thoughts gravitated towards not believing this lipstick would work too well.  See below for what it looks like on my lips.

My expression should give you an idea of how I feel about this lipstick.

This was without a flash.  I couldn’t get a good picture with a flash. I kept looking like Tyrone Biggums from The Chappelle Show. :-(

At this point, I’m not at all excited about this lipstick anymore. Now I’ll have to blend it somehow.  I decided to try MAC Magenta Lip Pencil. I really want to like this lipstick and not give up on it.Viva Glam Nicki2 lipstick and Magenta pencil

Overall, I’m disappointed in this color but it’s not a total loss. It’s highly unlikely I would wear this alone or apply it on anyone else alone.  Other options would be NYX Purple Rain lip liner, MAC Dervish, Soar, Whirl, Absolutely It, Vino, & Currant Lip Pencils. Keep in mind it’s for a good cause since 100% of the proceeds go to the MAC AIDS fund.  For example, with the purchase of this one lipstick, MAC can provide up to 4 bags of groceries for 2 people effected by HIV/AIDS.

If you are a huge MAC fan and love getting all of the newest products, just play around with this lipstick until you find your comfort zone.  Also keep in mind the Viva Glam Nicki 2 also comes in a lipglass that’s a whole lot easier to wear.

Black Opal Heatwave lipstick

Black Opal Heatwave Lipstick closeHere’s a swatch on my hand with a flashBlack Opal Heatwave lipstick swatch with flashDSCF8463I really, really like this lipstick. I’m happy with both the color and the texture.  I couldn’t tell from just looking at it, but there’s a bit of shimmer but not enough to make it frosty.  It glides on really smooth and feels hydrating on my lips. I know I’ll have to get a full size soon.  Sending this free sample was a good idea from Black Opal.

Lip Glidz
I received a pack of L~Glydz from my Facebook friend Cam to try and review last year. I didn’t get a chance to blog about them before the year ended so I wanted to make sure it was the first post I did for 2013.

This pack contains 5 L Glidz

This pack contains 5 L~Glydz

I love that the pack comes with instructions.  The L~Glydz sheet feels similar to a soft quilted cloth.  Not waxy or flimsy at all.

How cute that the L Glydz Sheet has an imprinted L on it. :-)

When I took the L~Glydz sheet out of the pack, I smelled a soft minty fragrance.  Not too over powering so that was nice.

So what are my thoughts on these L~Glydz lip blotters?  I like them.  I like the fact that they help my lipstick last longer when I layer products.  I also like that they’re a lot more sanitary than sticking your finger in your mouth. Ha ha!  I’ve used tissue before and the biggest difference is not getting pieces of tissue stuck to your lips.  When I’ve tried paper towels, they usually take off more product than I wanted.  So all in all, I’d recommend this product.

I discovered this beauty while browsing through the cosmetic section of H.E.B. grocery store last week.  It retails for only $1.99.  When I saw how pretty and vibrant this pink was I had to pick it up.  After reading that it was a matte lipstick, I was really happy because I’ve been looking for a bold pink lipstick for a while.  I want a lipstick that would be equivalent to M.A.C. Ruby woo…but pink.  (If ya’ll know of one please share it with me. ;-p)

There’s a lot of product in this tube for only $1.99 #winning!!!

This is a swatch of the lipstick with a flash

This picture was taken without a flash

It goes on really smooth

So what are my thoughts?  I really like this lipstick.  It’s advertised to last up to 4hrs and I agree.  I didn’t have a problem with it lasting.  The only downside is that this lipstick is really not matte.  It reminds me more of a mixture between a MAC Amplified and Satin textures.  I LOVE the color though and for $1.99, I can deal with it not being as matte as I’d hoped.

I know Walgreens had Wet-n-Wild products on sale buy 2 get 1 free last week. I’m not sure when the sale ends though.  If you want to try out these Wet-n-Wild matte lipsticks…or any of their products, it would be a good idea to try them while they’re on sale. :-)

Today I wore MAC Up The Amp Lipstick.  It’s such a pretty color.

I wore it alone.  It’s even prettier when blended with lipliner such as MAC Currant Lip Pencil.  See here.  To add extra pop you could add MAC Viva Glam VI.

What did you wear on your lips today?
