WOW! Would be the short and sweet version of my 1st New York Fashion Week experience, however, I’m sure you’d prefer actual details of my trip. LOL! :-)

NYC Selfie at the Park with Snow 1 I had to take selfies with the snow in the background because before this trip, I’d never been in real snow. :-)NYC Selfie in the park with snow 2 By the way, I’m wearing MAC Lipstick in Sin. It’s a Pro color.  It lasted all day! Like, for real. I took it off before I went to sleep that night.  I tried it on at the MAC Pro Soho store and kept it on.

I almost got it, but it’s so close to Diva.  I really couldn’t justify buying it. Here are swatches below.  The Beauty Blogger in me couldn’t resist doing a product review while I was in NYC. LOL! :-)MAC Sin Lipstick Label

Me in front of the MAC Pro Sign I was on my way to work on a photoshoot with UK Designer Blessed Zion. This explains why I’m at the store with my Zuca and my bag. You know, just in case you were wondering.  Ha ha ha! :-P

Now back to talking about New York Fashion Week. I was blessed to be able to work on 4 fashion shows while in NYC. I almost did 5, but due to the snow on Sunday, the promoter felt it would be best to cancel it. So we did a photoshoot instead.

The 1st show I worked on was on 2/4/14. I assisted Celeb Makeup Artist AJ Crimson who was the Key for the Michael Bastian Show. It was a Mens Wear show and I had a great time. Muji was one of the sponsors for the makeup team.  They provided these amazing masks for skin prep.  I forgot to take a picture of them, but they’re really small; like the size of a nickle.  Once you wet them, they expand and you just peel it a part and place it on the face for a few minutes.  It provides instant hydration to the skin and makes it smooth and ready for makeup.   Below is a picture of AJ showing us how to use the Muji Masks.2014-02-04 13.12.452014-02-04 13.14.342014-02-04 13.14.46After the time is up for the mask, he sprayed Caudalie Beauty Elixir (also one of the sponsors for the Makeup Team). I have so much to share with you all. It’s hard for me to know when to stop so that I don’t overload you in one post.  I’m still trying to decide just how many parts I’m going to break up this series into.  In the meantime, I’ll stop here for the 1st part.  Make sure to stay tuned to find out more about my 1st experience working at NYFW!!! :-)

The Houston Fashion Bloggers were hosted by Macy’s in Memorial City Mall a couple weeks ago for our October Meetup and we had a great time!!!

We got a chance to see the newest Fall/Winter Trends for this year.  Two members of the executive team put pieces together for us to preview.  The majority of the pieces put together cost less than $300.

DSCF0654This green Ralph Lauren Dress was the 1st piece that caught my eye when I walked in the room. It’s priced at only $99 .  It comes in different colors (although I’d  prefer the green since it’s the Pantone color of the year) and would be perfect for holiday parties. :-)

DSCF0655This is a top by Rachel Roy. It can also be worn as a short dress. It’s definitely in trend using black and white (which is hot for fall/winter as well as the stripes).  The fact the the stripes are diagonal is a plus because they’ll compliment your shape a lot better than just vertical and especially better than horizontal. It’s priced at a great value of $59.

DSCF0659This Black Leather jacket by Free People was another eye catcher. It’s retailed at $158.

DSCF0658 This lovely black coat is by Bar 3 and retails for $298 ( the most expensive item shown)  . I love the accent on the sleeves. The printed tee under the Black Coat is by Denim and Design $39.50. It’s a fairly new brand that’s described as cool “military chic”.  It’s paired with jeans for a comfortable look that still makes a statement.

Here are some close up pics of the shoes that were paired with the clothing.

I’d love to have these black and gold studded boots as well as these open toe/open heel booties for work. :-) The shoes below come in black as well.

This is Erica. She was our hostess for the evening. She’s in the Executive in Training Program and did a great job facilitating the Fall/Winter Meetup with us. 20131024_193028Here I am with our hostess Erica

We also had a chance to win 2 door prizes.20131024_180820Guess who one a prize???? 20131024_193739

We learned that only a few Macy’s in the Greater Houston Area have personal shoppers and this location actually has one. Her name is Deyna. That’s pretty cool.  Whenever I think of personal shoppers, I think of very high end stores.  So nice to know it’s this service is available for the everyday shopper as well.

A select number of Houston area bloggers were invited to attend the Simon Fashion Now Blogger Preview Party 2013 held at the Houston Galleria Westin Oaks Hotel.  This was my 2nd year in a row attending and I enjoyed myself just as much this year as I did last year.

It’s so cool to be able to see what the designers will be showcasing throughout the week before the shows actually begin. It made me feel special. ;-P Below are pictures of the racks displaying the Fall 2013 Trends.  The models will be wearing these pieces throughout the week.

Outerwear is going to be big as well. We saw different ways to make your look stand out using jackets and coats. DSCF9877 DSCF9878My favorite trend of the night was mixing Black and White. DSCF9875DSCF9876

Here are some pictures of the bloggers getting settled in their seats and being served by the waitstaff before the fashion show started.DSCF9806 DSCF9807 DSCF9811

We were given an intro by Jackie, the Simon Fashion Now Tour Coordinator and Leslie the Houston area Coordinator.

DSCF9816 DSCF9817 Jackie informed us that this is the 6th year of the Simon Fashion Now Tour.  The purpose of the tour is to celebrate the accessibility of affordable and luxury fashion on a local level.  They want to have events for consumers that weren’t as intimidating as NYFW.

There was also a Q & A segment at the end of the show.  Here are some of the highlights on what to expect or Fall 2013 Trends.

  1. Forget about the myth, “Don’t where white after Labor Day”, because white is definitely in and chic.
  2. The colors from Spring to Fall are more transitional than drastic so you’ll still see a lot of bold colors like all shades of green, blues, and reds.
  3. Being a professional makeup artist. I was more interested in beauty trends. So I asked what was going to be in for makeup and hair. Jackie said definitely red, burgundy, and plum lips. For hair, majority of models have slick ponytails in order to prevent distractions from the clothing.
  4. Leslie says hats will be a huge accessory, especially with designs, details, and feathers.
  5. Studded apparel will also be big this season
  6. Statement coats, shoes, and small handbags (particularly wristlets), scarves, and black and white watches.
  7. For shoes: heels will have a variety of heights and shapes. Leslie pointed out that we need to pay attention to the designs on the heels for the Fall not just the front of the toe. Designers have been getting more and more creative with the heels.

This 3D lazer cut out leather jacket that the model below is wearing was my favorite single item. I really, really want it. It’s the perfect leather jacket for Houston’s climate.DSCF9844 DSCF9846 Oh and look at these Alexander McQueen studded ankle boots. Yeeeessss!!!!DSCF9848

Dec 212012

The Houston Fashion Bloggers celebrated our one year anniversary with a holiday party sponsored by Saks on 12/7/12.

It was held at the very posh and chic 5115 restaurant inside of Saks Fith Avenue in the Houston Galleria Mall. This was actually my 1st time ever going there. It’s very nice. We even had a live piano player to set the mood. :-)

Our party was RSVP only and was well attended. We ended up having to implement a waiting list because so many people wanted to come. Unfortunately we weren’t able to accommodate everyone interested because there was a limit on how many people we could invite. It’s so nice to see how far we’ve come in just one year.

We donated proceeds to the Houston Area Women’s Center. Here’s a representative talking to us about the great things the center does for local women and children who are survivors or domestic violence.

Shalanda, the founder of the Houston Fashion Bloggers spoke to everyone and thanked them for participating in our celebration.

We had a raffle to help raise money for the Houston Area Women’s Center. With cool prizes!

Here are some of the winners below

There were models there to show us what was in trend for both women and men’s fashion.

I had a fantastic time mingling with my fellow Houston Fashion Bloggers!!!

It was so nice to have local designers come out and support us. Below I’m with Carrie Ann of Carrie Ann Boutique and Nadia of Mon Venin. Excuse the blurry picture .

And of course a very special thanks to Chad who works for Saks. He’s been so great to the Houston Fashion Bloggers. He keeps us updated on all of the latest trends and events with Saks. He helped make this Holiday party a huge success!

Dec 212012

I was contacted by a rep from Katy Mills Mall to inform my readers about the great sales available for holiday shopping, particularly for holiday parties. Below are ideas to help you prepare for your celebration activities, especially New year’s Eve fashions.

As the final days of 2012 dwindle, so does your time to find a great outfit for New Year’s Eve. Whether attending a posh party, casual gathering or fun night out on the town, Katy Mills, the largest outlet and value retail shopping destination in South Texas, has the ultimate selection of chic options to help you usher in the New Year in a fashion-forward outfit without breaking the bank.

The experts at Katy Mills offer fashion and style tips that will bring all eyes to you:
Sequin Sparkle – Be inspired by the famous New Year’s Eve Ball by donning a glamorous sequin-covered dress, top or skirt.
Bold Blazers – Coat yourself in luxury with velvet details, get edgy with leather accents or make a statement with a pop of color in a sophisticated, well-fitted blazer.
Metallic Details – Add an unexpected twist to the classic little black dress with metallic high heels, clutches and accessories.
Emerald With Envy – Ring in the New Year wearing Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year, emerald, in everything from dresses and ties, to jewelry and pocket squares.
Cool Fashions – Wear a fashion-forward cape, cashmere scarf, pair of patterned tights or detailed cardigan so you can countdown to the New Year under the stars.
Upgrade Your Style – Men can step up their 2013 style by adding an eye-catching vest, bowtie, suspenders or fedora to their ensemble.
Back to Basics – Rock an all-black or all-white outfit for an ultra polished look, or a chic combination of black and white for a more modern feel.
Editor’s Note: A mall representative is prepared to present the hottest New Year’s Eve fashions at great prices in-studio or at Katy Mills.

Qwashae Boutique was a sponsor of the kickoff for the Red Cat Jazz Cafe  3rd Annual Jazz Fest in Pearland, Texas last week at the Pearland Town Center Marriot.  Qwashae had four models pose and greet guests as they came in to listen to live music, enjoy refreshments, as well as network.

I worked with Qwashae Boutique as the makeup artist for the models and the manager.  I was also able to capture a few pictures after I was finished working with the lovely ladies.

Here’s the manager below, Shakeina, with one of the guests

There was a good amount of press and media in attendance.

The mayor of Pearland, Texas was there as well.

Qwashae Boutique had it’s own table set up
