CoastalScents Starry Nights QuadCoastalScents Starry Night Quad Name

I received this Coastal Scents eyeshadow quad in Starry Night as a free sample with a purchase I ordered earlier this year. I happened to be going through some things and found it so I decided to give it a try.

As you know, I’m a huge fan of Coastal Scents. I truly believe they have great products for such an inexpensive price. I especially love the fact that they have sales EVERY Fri. I wasn’t really concerned about the pigment or quality while trying out this quad. I was more interested in seeing how the colors blended.  Here’s the look I came up with below.

I’m really impressed with these lashes. They remind me of a more natural version of my beloved MAC #7 lashes. I’ll definitely buy more of these.

***Oh and for my Texas beauty lovers, H.E.B. has these lashes on sale for $2.50. :-)***

Have you ever walked out of the house thinking your makeup was flawless and got outside only to find out  it definitely was not?   Yeah, this happened to me on Easter Sunday. My first thought was OMG!! This isn’t how I thought it looked?

At first glance, it didn’t seem bad at all.

Both pictures above are with the flash

This was taken without a flash.  After taking a closer look, I could see it wasn’t blended as well as I thought, my lines weren’t straight, and my lashes weren’t close enough to my lash line. :-(

I totally didn’t notice these mistakes while I was sitting at my table.

 Without Flash

I’d planned to do an upbeat post on my colorful FOTD for Easter but had a rude awakening once I got in the car.:-(  The worse part was that I was running late and didn’t have any of the products I used with me to fix it.  I had to just suck it up.  I’ll take it as a learning experience.

So remember this post I did on my awesome new makeup mirror?

*The picture came from Ulta.com website*

Well the bulbs went out and I’m no longer able to get the great effects while putting on my makeup. I went to Ulta, where I originally purchased it, to buy replacement bulbs but unfortunately there are no replacement bulbs for this mirror, so I’d have to just buy another one.  That seemed like such a waste.  Nothing is wrong with the mirror itself, just the lighting.  For a while, I was sure this wasn’t that big of a deal.  Boy was I wrong.

Anyway, since I took the pictures, I’ll go ahead and tell you what I used. LOL! :-)

I toggled back and forth with the title of this post.  At first it was titled Easter FOTD Failure, but I figured that was too negative for Easter.  I decided to use my mistake as a learning experience and as a helpful beauty tip.  Maybe it’ll prevent you from doing the same thing. Lesson of the day: ALWAYS HAVE GOOD LIGHTING WHEN DOING MAKEUP!!!

I’m always looking for dupes of my favorite products with less expensive ones.  I was on the Coastal Scents website and I noticed very good customer reviews on their lip pencils.  I also was intrigued by the fact that there were pencils with names similar to some of my favorite MAC Lip Pencils.   This is the 1st post in which I’ll begin comparing the MAC Lip Pencils to the Coastal Scents Lip Pencils.

I’m starting off with Currant vs. Current.

Above is MAC Currant Lip Pencil

Here is Coastal Scents Current Lip Pencil

Swatches of the two next to each other.

On the Left is MAC on the Right is Coastal Scents.  You can see how there’s more pigment in the Coastal Scents Current Lip Pencil.  I had to lighten up my application while swatching.  This is the reason you can see a change in the intensity. They are very close in color and will provide similar effects.  See how

I paired them with MAC Up the Amp lipstick below.

MAC Up The Amp Amplified Lipstick alone.

Below is the same MAC Up the Amp Lipstick with Coastal Scents Current Lip Pencil

I’m very pleased and impressed with Coastal Scents Lip Pencils.  I love the fact that they glide on very smoothly.  More so than the MAC Lip Pencils.  I’m even more pleased that the Coastal Scents Lip Pencils only cost $2.95 compared to MAC Lip Pencils at $14.

In this post I’ll be featuring two of my favorite M.A.C. eyeshadows that I listed in this post.  I used Arena and Sketch.  Check it out below.

  3. Clinique High Impact Mascara and Lancome Definicil Mascar

  5. Black Opal Foundation Stick in Heavenly Honey as concealer to highlight under my eyes, cheek and nose highlight.
  6. Black Opal Foundation Stick in Truly Topaz as spot concealer on my face.
  7. Cover Girl Queen Collection Natural Hue Mineral Powder in Brown Bronze 1 all over face.

I mentioned in part 1 of this series that I wished Hautelook.com would’ve had the dupes for the M.A.C. #224 and #217 available.  I wanted to do separate posts so that I didn’t overwhelm you all to talk about them.

The Crown Brush C433 Pro Blending Fluff (whew long name) on the left is the brush the post will focus on.

Here are the two brushes next to each other.  You can see why I was so disappointed that Hautelook.com didn’t have these brushes.  It’s very hard to tell the difference between the two…well besides the logos. Ha ha!  As far as how they function, I honestly don’t notice a difference.  This is the absolute best dupe for a M.A.C. brush that I’ve found to date.  The next time I see them available, I’m buying 3.  I purchased this Crown Brush in March of this year.  At the time, I wasn’t sure how it was compare so I only bought one.  I totally regret that now.

Coastal Scents has a brush that looks similar on the website, but it’s always sold out, so I don’t know how it compares.   The Coastal Pro Blending Fluff Brush retails for $3.95 on their website.
Have any of you tried the Coastal Scents brush?
