You ever put on  your makeup and think “Yeah, I did that” and pat yourself on the back? Ha ha! Well I want to share with you some of the times I felt like this throughout the year. I’m going to break it down into different parts and make it a series of My Favorite Looks from 2013 because it would be an extremely long post if I tried putting all of the looks and products used in one post.

I’m gonna start with my Purple Halloween look a couple months ago.Purple Halloween Look This Halloween I decided to go with a dark glam look. I’m not really into scary or gross stuff so I stuck with a beauty look,  just one that’s out of my norm.Purple Halloween Look 2

Fall 2013 NYX Purple LipPurple and plum lips are a hot trend for the Fall 2013 season. I wanted my followers to know that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to achieve this look. Both of these products were under $5. :-)

I alternate with using either the NYX Purple Rain Lip Liner alone for a long lasting matte finish, or in combination with NYX African Queen to add shine.

Here’s what they look like belowFall 2013 NYX Purple Lip ComboBelow is a swatch without a flashFall 2013 NYX Purple Lip swatched on hand no flashThis is with a flash Fall 2013 NYX Purple Lip Combo swatch with flashBelow, I’m wearing NYX Purple Rain Lip Liner by itself. It’s really pretty.

I’m so glad I experimented with these two. I’ve been using NYX Purple Rain Lip Liner for a while. I actually keep one in my personal bag as well as one for my Pro MUA kit. The first time I tried it was pairing it with Afrobella’s MAC All My Purple Life Lipglass.  I did a step by step tutorial of a Purple Look of the Day using the two here I think I originally purchased it from my local Beauty Supply Store. I’ve also bought them from H.E.B. I purchased the NYX African Queen Lipgloss from H.E.B a couple weeks ago during a NYX sale. ( I just love Kroger and H.E.B  grocery stores because they both have great cosmetic depts with frequent sales).

What’s your favorite purple lip combo?

Initially when I heard about Nicki Minaj being this year’s MAC Viva Glam Ambassador…again, I thought “oh, I can’t wait to see what color she’ll have this time.”. When I saw promos and the description, I was actually excited. My favorite colors are pink and purple. Since the color was described as a vivid lavender pink, I thought this would be a gorgeous color and couldn’t wait to see it.

After my initial swatches, my thoughts gravitated towards not believing this lipstick would work too well.  See below for what it looks like on my lips.

My expression should give you an idea of how I feel about this lipstick.

This was without a flash.  I couldn’t get a good picture with a flash. I kept looking like Tyrone Biggums from The Chappelle Show. :-(

At this point, I’m not at all excited about this lipstick anymore. Now I’ll have to blend it somehow.  I decided to try MAC Magenta Lip Pencil. I really want to like this lipstick and not give up on it.Viva Glam Nicki2 lipstick and Magenta pencil

Overall, I’m disappointed in this color but it’s not a total loss. It’s highly unlikely I would wear this alone or apply it on anyone else alone.  Other options would be NYX Purple Rain lip liner, MAC Dervish, Soar, Whirl, Absolutely It, Vino, & Currant Lip Pencils. Keep in mind it’s for a good cause since 100% of the proceeds go to the MAC AIDS fund.  For example, with the purchase of this one lipstick, MAC can provide up to 4 bags of groceries for 2 people effected by HIV/AIDS.

If you are a huge MAC fan and love getting all of the newest products, just play around with this lipstick until you find your comfort zone.  Also keep in mind the Viva Glam Nicki 2 also comes in a lipglass that’s a whole lot easier to wear.

It’s always nice to go through your old makeup stash and find a treasure.  While organizing my old lipsticks, I came across a bunch of Clinique lipsticks.  One in particular stood out to me and put and instant smile on my face.  Metallic Sand. Metallic Sand Collage

I worked for Clinique for about 2 1/2 yrs before I began working for MAC. I can’t tell you how many tubes of Metallic Sand lipstick I went through and how many I sold, but there were lots.  It’s such a gorgeous color and it’s very versatile.  Metallic Sand lipstickI could put this color on just about anyone regardless of age or color and it worked well.  It’s also easy to use with different color eye shadows and blushes.  Metallic Sand on lips up closeMetallic Sand is a great neutral color and can be blended with an array of lip liners.  Below, I blended it with MAC Plum lip pencil.Metallic Sand with Plum PencilMetallic Sand and Plum SwatchMetallic Sand applied to bottom lipMetallic Sand and Plum applied to TopMetallic Sand with Plum on lipsI’m probably going to wear this combo a lot for the next couple of days.  I can’t believe I forgot all about it.  Have you ever found a lipstick from a while ago and fell back in love with it?

I’m always looking for dupes of my favorite products with less expensive ones.  I was on the Coastal Scents website and I noticed very good customer reviews on their lip pencils.  I also was intrigued by the fact that there were pencils with names similar to some of my favorite MAC Lip Pencils.   This is the 1st post in which I’ll begin comparing the MAC Lip Pencils to the Coastal Scents Lip Pencils.

I’m starting off with Currant vs. Current.

Above is MAC Currant Lip Pencil

Here is Coastal Scents Current Lip Pencil

Swatches of the two next to each other.

On the Left is MAC on the Right is Coastal Scents.  You can see how there’s more pigment in the Coastal Scents Current Lip Pencil.  I had to lighten up my application while swatching.  This is the reason you can see a change in the intensity. They are very close in color and will provide similar effects.  See how

I paired them with MAC Up the Amp lipstick below.

MAC Up The Amp Amplified Lipstick alone.

MAC Up the Amp Amplified Lipstick with with MAC Currant Lip Pencil

Below is the same MAC Up the Amp Lipstick with Coastal Scents Current Lip Pencil

I’m very pleased and impressed with Coastal Scents Lip Pencils.  I love the fact that they glide on very smoothly.  More so than the MAC Lip Pencils.  I’m even more pleased that the Coastal Scents Lip Pencils only cost $2.95 compared to MAC Lip Pencils at $14.

I love Orange lips!  Not a much as I love red lips but orange/coral lips would be right at the top.  I’ve been fascinated with MAC’s new Prolongwear Lip Pencils ever since I had the chance to play with them at the counter.  They glide on so smoothly and they actually do stay.  I really enjoy using them as bases for lipsticks and lipglosses.  Since I know I’ll be participating in the Tango Tangerine Trend for 2012, I wanted a good color to work with.

Here’s What A Blast!

I know this looks red but really both of these colors are bright and vibrant oranges.  I swatched What A Blast Prolongwear Lip Pencil next to MAC Morange.  They work perfectly together! :-)

With the flash

There is a downside to using these Prolongwear Lip Pencils.  Not sure if you can tell ( I know I immediately did but couldn’t fix it. :-() but you will need to blend quickly.  In the above picture, I can see where the liner was applied and where I applied the lipstick.  I tried blending the colors but I took too long and couldn’t.  As a heads up, once these lip pencils are on…they’re on. Ha ha!
