You ever put on your makeup and think “Yeah, I did that” and pat yourself on the back? Ha ha! Well I want to share with you some of the times I felt like this throughout the year. I’m going to break it down into different parts and make it a series of My Favorite Looks from 2013 because it would be an extremely long post if I tried putting all of the looks and products used in one post.
I’m gonna start with my Purple Halloween look a couple months ago. This Halloween I decided to go with a dark glam look. I’m not really into scary or gross stuff so I stuck with a beauty look, just one that’s out of my norm.

I attended Fashion Houston last night and boy what a show it was! There was a great line up of fashion designers including: Johanna Johnson, Zachary Prell, Haute Hippie, and Wes Gordon closing out the show.
This was my 3rd year in a row attending Fashion Houston and covering it on my blog. I noticed some extreme differences from the previous years. The biggest being there was no pre-party to mingle and network. No way to interact with vendors or other fashion designers who had products to display and sell. No way to really get you excited for the show. Instead of the gorgeous tent outside to walk into and interact with other fashion lovers, there was just a really long red carpet outside that led you right into the Wortham Theater.
It was also nice meeting new people as well.
I sat next to these two ladies in the press pit during the show.
This product has been out for a while, but for whatever reason, I never tried it. I would see it while working at the counter but I just never ventured out of my normal routine of using either the original Prep and Prime Primer or the newer Prep and Prime Natural Radiance Primer.
I’m a big advocate of prepping the skin before applying makeup so I always prime first. I regularly use Make Up Forever’s HD Primer on my freelance jobs when I’m not working at the MAC Counter. I love it. It’s always nice to discover new products that work well so I can expand my options in my pro makeup kit.
I decided to try the MAC Prep and Prime Moisture Infusion Serum a few weeks ago because I didn’t have the Natural Radiance at my particular station. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the product works.
The MAC Moisture Infusion Serum reminds me a lot of the MUFE HD Elixer. It’s like a hybrid between a primer and moisturizer all in one. It makes the skin feel hydrated and allows the makeup to go on more smoothly. I’ve been using it ever since and my customers have really liked how their skin feels. It retails for $40. I’ll be adding it to my pro makeup kit soon.
The Houston Fashion Bloggers were hosted by Macy’s in Memorial City Mall a couple weeks ago for our October Meetup and we had a great time!!!
We got a chance to see the newest Fall/Winter Trends for this year. Two members of the executive team put pieces together for us to preview. The majority of the pieces put together cost less than $300.
This green Ralph Lauren Dress was the 1st piece that caught my eye when I walked in the room. It’s priced at only $99 . It comes in different colors (although I’d prefer the green since it’s the Pantone color of the year) and would be perfect for holiday parties.
This is a top by Rachel Roy. It can also be worn as a short dress. It’s definitely in trend using black and white (which is hot for fall/winter as well as the stripes). The fact the the stripes are diagonal is a plus because they’ll compliment your shape a lot better than just vertical and especially better than horizontal. It’s priced at a great value of $59.
This lovely black coat is by Bar 3 and retails for $298 ( the most expensive item shown) . I love the accent on the sleeves. The printed tee under the Black Coat is by Denim and Design $39.50. It’s a fairly new brand that’s described as cool “military chic”. It’s paired with jeans for a comfortable look that still makes a statement.
Here are some close up pics of the shoes that were paired with the clothing.
I’d love to have these black and gold studded boots as well as these open toe/open heel booties for work. The shoes below come in black as well.
We learned that only a few Macy’s in the Greater Houston Area have personal shoppers and this location actually has one. Her name is Deyna. That’s pretty cool. Whenever I think of personal shoppers, I think of very high end stores. So nice to know it’s this service is available for the everyday shopper as well.
I saw these pretty pink polishes at Krogers Grocery Store last week and had to have them. I’m not sure the exact amount of the proceeds that are donated to Breast Cancer Awareness, but I’m hoping my purchase will help to support the cause.
I added Kleancolor Polish in Aurora because #1 it’s my favorite nail art polish and #2 it’s perfect with pink polish. I buy this polish from the beauty supply stores around my area for $2.
