2011 Houston Press Web Awards

Wow! Is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of this event.  It was so nice and I had a great time.  It was such a wonderful experience.  I had the opportunity to meet and network with so many people working in social media.  I thank God for twitter because I wouldn’t have found out about it if I hadn’t started to follow the Houston Press.

Very nice crowd and a good turn out for the Inaugural Event!

Couple of peeps I met at the table

Bumped into a University of Houston buddy, Rodney who’s a web designer #Go Coogs!!
Saw Bun B of UGK, one of my hometown heroes!  He was so cool and down to earth.  It’s good to see celebrities interacting with fans.  He took a lot of pictures with people and stayed a good while.
There were many awards presented throughout the night.  Many categories for blogs and tweets that I never would’ve thought of like Best Late Night Twitterer and Best Sex Blog (he he! :D)
I’m not that big on sports but I thought that the name of this guy’s blog was cool.  I love crawfish, too bad crawfish season just ended. πŸ™
They even looked through several blogs and picked the best blog post.
They didn’t leave out the Arts
They even recognized music blogs.  Sweet!
I have no idea how they were able to choose this one but they gave out an award for the best tweet of the year.

This event was more than just an award ceremony.  There was plenty of time to mix and mingle with others as well as food/drinks(open bar), and fun activities and prizes.

This company took free fun photos.  You got to choose your background, and you received a free picture.  They had props and everything. This was so much fun!
I chose the Super Star Paparazzi background
Woo Hoo!! πŸ˜€
Not sure which background they chose but they seemed to be enjoying the props!  Ha ha!
More people taking pictures
Everyone seemed to have a great time.
There was a live twitter feed going and they posted all of the tweets on the screen.

Here are a few of the winners.  They received recognition along with laptop covers with the Houston Press and Web Awards logo
Fun times, I can’t wait until next year.  I hope to be able to grow enough by then to be nominated and possibly win an award!

This guy and DJ Fat Tony were the MCs for the night.  They kept the party going.
Fat Tony performing.  He’s actually not fat at all. LOL!
Very pretty set up.  This was actually held at the Momentum Audi.  Who would’ve thought you could dress up a car dealership and turn it into a chic party spot.  Great Idea!!
DJ Fat Tony on the ones and twos mixing and scratching and providing an awesome party mix.   The banner shows Mega Dj Karaoke.  They gave away a Karaoke machine (which I hate I didn’t win because I love karaoke) and a set of ear phones.

It really was! The event was so much better than what I was expecting. When I heard the title, my first thought was that it was going to be uptight and conservative, possibly boring. This was not the case at all. Everyone was very sociable, the DJ played a good variety of music so that helped a lot, plus all of the other activities that were going on just seemed to put everyone at ease…well I'm sure the open bar helped a bit too. πŸ˜€
